Fraser Coast Regional Council’s Hervey Bay Library has a new home – and its Arcus automated returns system has moved right along with it.

As part of the transition to the new Hervey Bay Community Hub, Adilam deinstalled the library’s existing Arcus AMHS sorter, relocated it down the road to the new facility, and reconfigured and expanded the system for its new environment.

It’s a great example of one of the strengths of the Arcus platform: modularity. Rather than replacing an existing system when the library moved, the sorter was easily dismantled, relocated, reinstalled, and expanded with new components to suit the layout and workflows of the new building.

The 13-Bin system now includes additional accumulator sections, new spare Arcus Self-Leveling Bins, and two new custom slimline Arcus Secure return chutes. Away from the sorter, two new external-facing Arcus Secure return chutes have also been installed, complete with custom Fraser Coast vinyls, Braille faceplates, and internal bins.

For staff, a new Arcus Bin Unloading Station makes processing material collected through the external chutes particularly simple. Staff simply wait for the automated ‘Bin Full’ alert from the bin, swap it with an empty one, and dock the full bin in the Unloading Station. The sorter takes care of the rest, lifting the bin and emptying the contents gradually into the sorter for processing. Staff can focus on frontline customer service duties while enjoying an enhanced OH&S-friendly workflow.

Visibility has also been improved, with an additional Arcus Live Sort Display. Hervey Bay is now the first Arcus site to feature two Live Sort Displays, positioned on opposite sides of the returns room so staff can easily see sorter activity wherever they are working.
