New Arcus AMHS Machine at Mill Park Library

Adilam has completed the installation and commissioning of an Arcus Automated Materials Handling Sorting Machine at Mill Park Library.

The system was planned in detail to ensure the new system sat comfortably in the tight constraints of the returns room. Custom componentry was designed and supplied to ensure a smooth, seamless returns experience for members and to match existing joinery left behind by the previous return chute supplier.

Key features of the installation include:

  • A seven-bin Arcus AMHS Machine with a custom sorting ruleset tailored to Mill Park’s collection and workflows
  • Two external-facing secure return chutes supporting 24/7 after-hours returns, with a custom shared stainless-steel fascia and vinyl wrap
  • A live wall display providing real-time visibility of sorter status, bin fill levels, and activity

Arcus is designed for speed, accuracy, reliability, and flexibility. The system operates 24/7, requires minimal manual intervention, and can run unattended around the clock, including in complete darkness.

When Mill Park Library opened in 2002 it quickly became iconic for its stunning architecture and forward-looking service model, pioneering the integrated digital and print system that would soon be adopted by libraries across Australia.

More than two decades later, the branch continues to evolve. With the installation of an Arcus AMHS Machine, Yarra Plenty Regional Library now has the infrastructure to support efficient returns handling and high-volume circulation, helping ensure Mill Park remains a modern, high-performing community library for years to come.
